Hmm, I don't have a general TV icon. I might have to rectify that... but not at this moment.

So the past few weeks I made it through Supernatural S4 & King of Queens S1...

King of Queens S1- I've always loved this show, but I always caught it at random times. It was nice seeing it from the start and in order. It's still hard not to call it "The Doug & Carrie Show."

* I wish they didn't write out Carrie's sister. She was almost as hot as Leah Remini.

* I forgot they had a theme song. For most of season 1 they had just this bus and the sign with the show's name on it. Then around the last 3 episodes it just popped up out of the blue. That was weird, but kinda funny.

Supernatural S4- Holy HELL I forgot how awesome this show was. I need to see season 5!!!

* Any comments I make will probably be spoilers, so nevermind.

As a man and frequent bar patron, I can really get behind this one. As a man, you don’t take a crap in the bathroom at a bar. No one wants to enjoy their beer while smelling your rancid feces. There’s a reason they haven’t invented Schiessenbrau, if it tastes like shit you won’t want to ingest it right?

So there you have it, no shitting in the bar, man law.

I'm getting out of my super work mode and entering social mode. I should have realized something was up when I started checking and commenting to people on Facebook. On the upside, I love this mode, but on a downside it's very bad timing. I have two months in this cold as fuck place... I'm supposed to be depressed! What happened to the depressed mode? How do we just skip over that? So this might not be a complete transition... maybe it's a fluke and I'll be back on scripts tomorrow.

As of now, I'm all like "Fuck this story shit!" I want to go to a concert. I want to go out drinking. Sex is starting to sound good again. I can't do any of that because it's a little after midnight at the start of the work week and it's 19 degrees out. My brain thinks it's Summer. Arg!!!

*****

Random thoughts from work: Earlier someone mentioned they were watching Lost from the beginning and said they didn't notice before how Jack was a dick from the get-go. That slightly irked me as I related to early seasons Jack, but I held my tongue (flash of passion/emotion... that should have been a sign).

But at work I was wondering why "dick" is used as a negative term? I could kinda see it if a girl broke up with a guy and called him a dick, but I rarely hear girls use the term. So wouldn't that be some self-gender hatred? I see how a guy calling another guy a "pussy" is a negative thing, as it implies softness and questions masculinity. But if both "dick" and "pussy" are negative terms, are there any good genital references?! Damn puritan thinking!

Why is "cunt" like one of the ultimate negative terms? I don't think I even heard much of it until after high school. "Cunt" actually sounds positive/fun to say. That said, I understand the negative connotations of "cunt rag." lol

Also, why is "douche" negative? Isn't it a helpful tool to help with the PH balance or whatever? "Douche bag" - That brings to mind vinegar, which a lot of people don't like the smell of, but *shrug*. "Douche nozzle" is pretty funny.

I understand "asshole." It has defecation connotations, which is why I consider "shit" a very effective curse word.

This is pretty much where I stopped and started focusing on the music.

Ungh. Dammit.

My ability to use a tablet for sketching is apparently dead. I hooked up the Wacom Bamboo tablet we got for Christmas it's really great. I love it more than my old Graphire one. Just. I can't sketch with it anymore than I could with the old one. Everything comes out looking stiff and awkward. Like I just can't get a handle on the flow I used to have. It's just dead. I can still make great use of the tablet for digital coloring and all... But I feel awful about my lack of control and ability to simply draw with it.

Gotta be good old fashioned paper and pencil or I just won't get effing anywhere.

Rargh.

There are over 30,000 flights taking off from US airports every single day. Multiply that by 365 days in a year and multiply it again by 9 for the nine years since September 11th, 2001.

So with over 98 and a half million flights, there have been 2 terrorists who were nearly able to blow up planes in the past nine years - a shoe bomber and an underwear bomber. Neither were successful. (2:98,550,000+)

You're 10 times more likely to be killed by a shark (1:9,300,000) than be on a plane in the US that has a nearly-successful terrorist aboard.

You're 16 times more likely to be crushed by a vending machine (1:6,000,000).

You're 86 times more likely to be hit by lightning (1:576,000).

Anyone else think that this airport security reaction is completely off base?

The British response to years of IRA bombings was "Screw you guys, we're still going to live our lives". They understood that you could only improve security so much and that 99.99999~% of people aren't a danger.

Why America can't handle a slender fraction of that kind of threat in the same way boggles me. All they've proven is how easy it is to paralyse the system instead of how futile bombing attempts are. It's the wrong answer and it empowers the extremists instead of the people.

Spent yesterday lettering CC #16. Three pages to go needing three bubbles of dialogue. I'm sure John will take care of them with ease.

In other news, yesterday I discovered I went too deeply in-depth with all the characters in the new project I'm working on. The characters from the intended prologue took lives of their own and demanded their own story. So now I have two stories. Oy. Now one story has a the cool hook and about 9 decently scripted pages... with 91 pages left of I have no freakin' idea. The other story has almost fully developed characters, maybe 3 decently scripted pages, pretty much a decent outline and bulk of a full story, but now I have to figure out a sellable hook.

Again I say, oy.

I almost look forward to my crappy day job tomorrow just so I can develop these stories some more.

Oh, and my amount of needed research has just doubled. Weee. @_@

Crap, long time no update. :| At least for how often I usually post, anyway.

Well, we did finally get rid of that car that was blocking our driveway. Last Sunday when I woke up around 1:30pm and saw the damn thing still out there, I called the complex's courtesy patrol to complain. ...turns out everyone on that watch group is a local cop who volunteers for the job. One of them came out to check out the situation, called a wrecker and had the vehicle towed. Funny thing was that when I went outside to speak with him, I was wearing my TF 2007 movie hoodie and he asked, "Hey, are you a Transformers fan?" "Oh, totally." "That's awesome. Here, check out these ringtones I've got!" ...and so I stood outside in the snow for fifteen minutes sharing TF ringtones with a cop and talking about 80's cartoons. LOL.

'Course, wouldn't you know it? Forty five minutes after the vehicle was towed, the owner showed up looking for his car and knocked on our front door. He asked me if I knew what happened and I played dumb. "Yeah, I think it got towed about an hour ago. I looked outside when I heard some noise and saw a tow truck out here." "Do you know what company it was?" "Arrow, I think." The guy apologized for leaving his car there and said he'd tried to come back the day before to move it, but I think that's bullshit. If he had, he'd have seen the note my roommate left on his windshield. If he couldn't move the car then, he should have called a Wrecker and at least had it towed out of the complex. I mean, shit. That thing had been out there since Thursday afternoon. How do you leave your car blocking someone else's driveway for three days? Jerk.

This last week at work was pretty laid back for the most part, plus we got Friday off. Not as busy as it usually is thanks to the weather and holidays, but I fully expect it to kick back into high gear again on Monday. And we did make it home before midnight on Thursday, by about five minutes. Just in time to pop a bottle of sparking cider and toast to the New Year.

Stuff I got for Christmas this time around...

- Human Alliance movie!Sideswipe with Epps (From [info]koh4711)
- A Japanese Comickers artbook with a crackload of drool-worthy art in it (From [info]koh4711)
- A GI Joe Rise of Cobra Snake Eyes keychain (From [info]amethystlight)
- A Snake Eyes t-shirt (From [info]amethystlight)
- An official WWE John Morrison t-shirt (From [info]padisharlupine)
- A .hack//SIGN Subaru figure (From [info]anniessmile)
- $15 Starbucks gift card and some Christmas cash (From my parents)
- Hickory Farms gift box (From my parents)
- Christmas money (From my grandfather)
- Shared with the fiance, a Bamboo tablet (from his folks)
- $25 Walmart gift card (From work management)

I put Subaru up on the Ratchet shelf next to the red and white version of Ratchet. I made them hold hands. I have no shame. :|

And I spent some of my Christmas money on the G-Force two disc DVD set and the DVD release of 9. I also bought a Darwin figure on clearance because I just...I can't help myself.

I really need to try out that Bamboo tablet. I've been using the same little WACOM Graphire tablet for like, nine years now. It's seriously time for an upgrade of SOME kind.

Our New Year's Eve party last night went fantastically well.

Around 9:30pm, there were only about 6-7 people at the house and I was getting worried folks were bailing because of the rain. Then, 10 minutes later, 20+ people showed up all at once, streaming in from the back and front doors simultaneously after arriving by foot or parking their cars - insta-party!

Music, food, drinks, cigars, noise-makers, we hit all the New Year's clichés head on. :)

A great start to 2010, if I do say so myself.

It almost never fails... days I don't have to go to the crappy day job or some other pressing engagement, I can't seem to focus enough to write. On the other days I'm BURSTING with inspiration, burning through index cards or notebook paper, LONGING to type everything up.

@_@

I am learning a few tricks, though. Being back on a music kick, I'm rediscovering a lot of the drive and inspiration for writing I've lost over the past few years. Certain albums speak to me at certain times because they give theme inspiration for certain characters.

Like, I already realized that Kittie's Funeral for Yesterday and Gwen Stefani's Sweet Escape inspire me to write and letter CC. But now I'm realizing how to focus that further and dedicating an album to each character in each new project.

Why do I pretty much listen to Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon almost back-to-back? Because it inspires me to keep writing the protagonist for a new project I'm working on. Yesterday at work I learned that GZA's Liquid Swords helped me write more of the plot and the environments as its own character. Today I'll be running on a theory that Royce da 5'9"s Independent's Day and Slaughterhouse will help me with the antagonist. I still need to find albums for the love interest and the secondary characters.

As the year winds down, a few randoms.

I posted this item in our holiday note... "And now the office printer is getting cranky and disobedient. Kurt has been hunting the web and ebay for parts, to make the technology fail trifecta. .." Earlier I replaced the Printer Head in our aging Canon iP4000. So for about $50 I replaced the print head in the beastie, delivering me from temptation to buy a new printer... like a 13 x 19" PixmaPro 9000... And of course shortly thereafter, started getting the "Waste Ink Tank is Nearly Full" error... while printing Holiday Cards. So another dive into eBay for discontinued partz. Did score replacement ink absorber pads. Woot. Mind you the "waste ink tank" is actually a nest of SPONGES that comprise most of the base of the printer. When they're saturated, they're done.

Last weekend, took the beastie apart and had as it. EWWWWWWWUUUCCCHHHHH... NASTY.

The amount of ink the nearly dozens of pads of various sizes absorbed was just plain INSANE. Thank the gods I had latex exam gloves on hand. But a couple of very geeky hours, MANY q-tips, and a pile of Newspaper, tissues and paper towels later, I essentially had a refurbished printer. Was worth the attemp, considering how past warranty this this is. Interesting that the major wear points of the machine wore out practically all at once. They pretty much expect you to buy a new printer. HP followed by Epson are the utter worst at this sort of thing, but Canon is not immune.

It would appear that my rotator cuff is not the issue with what's literally a pain in the neck. I would appear to have a cervical disk either slightly dislocated or bulged. Stress related? NAAAAAHHHHH. But I have been consuming a disturbing amount of ibuprofen over the past few weeks. I don't seem to have any range of motion problems, it just hurts. Pretty much ALL THE TIME. And it's gotten frakkin' annoying. The chiropractor and I are monitoring. Will revisit after 10-15 adjustments to see if there is overall improvement. After the initial episode, there seemed a backing off from the edge of sheer agony, but the past three weeks seem like a plateau. If I need an CT Scan or MRI, will have to go back to my Primary Care Physician with the chiropractors recommendation to get the diagnostic testing referrals... then FIGHT with Empire Blue Cross.

I've been going to Karate ANYWAY, as opposed to letting my ass further widen. But the neck IS a constant distraction and throws off my technique and timing, and effects my stamina more than I am happy with. But I figure the consequences of NOT training are greater than potential hazards of training with a mind injury. Hope I am right about that.

We're laying low and hiding out at home. And truthfully, not in really any shape to go out and party. Been home the past few years and while part of me misses the socializing, haven't been that motivated to seek drunken soiree's either. Or expensive "packaged" New Years Experiences at restaurants or clubs. And seriously, Times Square is for the young... and warmly dressed.

[info]krazycrafter has been doing, as expected, incrementally better. She still gets wiped out and sore if she tries to do much. Still very little strength on the right yet. But she can drive a little and has been experimenting with Continuous Loom Weaviing. Little experimental efforts using pins mounted in cardboard boxes. This is a prelude to her getting the one extravagant holiday present in the household, a large modular weaving frame. Will be wonderful Occupational therapy if she doesn't overdo it. She can drive some now, but I don't know how far she's good for. I drove back from Brooklyn after Chirstmas soiree' and with My neck thought I was going to DIE. But she re-connected with one of he girlhoold BFFs today and is talking about driving out to Boston area to visit. I actually like her determination, and even though I worry, I want her to be up for it.

I am stlll doing all the shopping and cooking and most errands. So keeping house is suffering, and I rather wish the Padawans would kick in more. But with Padawan One curling up with an anxiety atttach when confronted with chores or helping our more; I honestly can't ask Padawan Two to do more. He's been a real Dog Soldier about picking up his brothers slack and I am rather proud of him. Will need to get him over to GameStop and let him snag Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. If nothing else, so he'll play Left For Dead 2 with it's disturbing zombie horror soundtrack and give him mother a break!

The year ended this morning with a surprise morning snowfall. A swift 1-2 inches fell on Rockland and the other Northwest Suburbs. Felt like a parting shot and apology from 2009. Seriously, this year ARRIVED already old, and I am not sorry to see it done. So raise a toast a class and bid this one good bye and good night and lets hope for an improved 2010. But it was still pretty this morning.

I am sure I won't be bored, and am certainly hurtling into '10 on a wave of STUFF TO DO. But I could hope for a little less... um... "interesting."
Those of you who grok Zen or Buddhism will get where I am coming from. But I am also sure that universe will no doubt continue to fuck with us... um... keep us entertained.

WAQX 1043, "Q104 Classic Rock" is playing their top 104 tunes into the New Year's Hour. Its the top 104 from the 1043 Thanksgiving countdown. Currently playing Don McClean's American Pie at Number 25. Meat Loaf next... yes, Paradise By The Dashboard Lights ... *sigh* Predictable. Guess what's #1? No peeking. GUESS.

Right. See you next year on the other side!

Baannnn zaaaaiiiii!!!!!

Subject:10 Years
Security:Public

10 years ago, my life was going through massive upheaval. One of the wonderful things about archiving my old 'Newsletter' e-mails through Livejournal is that I don't have to guess what was happening. It's all right there. Christmas 1999 and then New Years 2000... all of it.

Ten years ago today I had just moved back to Calgary to start teaching Animation courses full time at AMTC, not knowing where that would lead. Over the next ten years I'd move from Calgary to Halifax, have 3 major job shake-ups and 3 major relationships, then come out the other side with new love, a home, and two incredible careers. Highs and lows wrapping up with a rock solid base of happiness and security I could never have imagined.

It's brain boggling and wonderful.

Stacy and I have been together for 3 years come late January. We're engaged and looking forward to the future together. Having this kind of love in my life is so precious to me.

I've been at UDON for 6 and a half years and Seneca for 6 years. Both jobs are moving along well and have found an unexpected equilibrium with each other. I don't know exactly where they'll lead but I have confidence about the industry I'm in and what my contributions are.

The house has become a social spot and a sanctum, a place where we can entertain our friends or just steal ourselves away for private time. It's accessible to downtown but not crammed into the hustle and bustle of it all. Tidying up for some New Year's festivities tonight, I'm still a bit in awe that this is our home, even though I've been living here for just over 2 years.

This decade was easily the most eventful slice of my life so far. Thank you for being a part of it.
The future looks bright.

Happy New Year everyone.
